So… I don't have that much to talk about this week. I didn't play; I didn't paint. But that doesn't mean nothing happened.
I decided to use my prize money, as well as take advantage of Spartan's weekend deal. I ordered several Aquan models, Terquai Cruisers, as well as Relthoza Shunt Cruisers and Carrier (so I can play with cloaking and battle shunt). BigBen also ordered the Terquai Patrol Box, and I even ordered a model from Dystopian Wars, to serve as a Corsair Battlecarrier. So, I basically went from two fleets to four fleets... Bull99 and I also spent several hours planning various FSA and Planetfall events at Games 'n Stuff and Glenburnie, Maryland. I'm going to help run the next event, which is on November 8th (Sign-up starts at 10 AM) It is a 1000 points tournament, with three custom scenarios. I will be re-building tournament packet tonight, to include better diagrams of the deployment zones. We also talked about terrain… A lot. We both agree, from our combined playing experience, that the largest piece of terrain we should use is a roughly 10" x 10" blob. 6" x 6" is too small, as we both follow the guidelines for maintaining 8" between all terrain pieces. 4" x 8" is OK; in fact, I believe that size still works for an asteroid field. For planetoids, anything in the 6" to 8" range is acceptable. I also think a 12" x 12" debris field is OK, but due to construction limitations, we probably will never use one that large. That said, at one events I want to try having one table with nothing but very large asteroid fields, small 4" planetoids, and maybe a debris and gas cloud... while maintaining 25% coverage. We are assuming everyone plays with 25% coverage, even though we know it's often much less (looking at you, Canada) so right now, we think we should guarantee 25% coverage at events. Maybe we will experiment with coverage percentages at an event as well; that it would be useful data for designing tables for the Nova Open. We also discussed MFV and table size for events. We are going to try some crazy things, just to see how people respond. In January/February, we will be running a 500 points random doubles event, where every game is 2v2. The next event will be a 600 point tournament on 4' x 4' tables, and some restrictions on fleet build. I think, with that data in hand, we will finalize the point value for the NOVAopen. Bull99 is still working on securing the table space for that event, and it looks like it will definitely happen. Now I just need to reformat my terrain templates to fit on normal paper, so we can guarantee a large amount of standardize to rain for the next few events. Those should be posted here later this week. So, I guess a lot of stuff happened, even if I did not have a game.
