This website was started primarily as means to record my thoughts and ideas about playing Spartan Games' Firestorm Armada (FSA) miniatures wargame. I have been playing tabletop wargames for almost twenty years, and recently started playing FSA after reading several posts about it on Yes The Truth Hurts. I had become disenchanted with Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 (40K) game several years ago, and basically stopped playing any tabletop game for several years. Fortunately, I reconnected with some friends, and we started playing board games at the Friendly Local Gaming Store (FLGS). I eventually realized that 40K, much like Monopoly and Risk, is really a terrible game, with terrible balance and poor game mechanics*. My personal renewal started when I was introduced to Antonio Baunza's 7-Wonders, which is potentially one of the most-balanced games available, regardless if you're playing 3 players or 8 players, or somewhere in between. So when I started reading about a very well balanced miniatures wargame set in the far future, with artwork inspired by sci-fi classics like Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Star Wars, and contemporaries like Halo and Mass Effect, the result was essentially inevitable.
The goal is simple: Create an online resource for FSA players. The current objectives to support this are:
1. Provide Effective Battle Reports
2. Facilitate Better Playing Tables
3. Analysis of Game Mechanics
With your help and feedback, I hope to accomplish all of these objectives.
* I know the proper term is 'mechanism', not mechanic, but as most people say and understand mechanic, I'll use this term for clear communication.
